These professional health practitioners, according to him, will stay in the country for two days. They are expected to conduct eye and dental surgeries, removal of hernias, among other conditions, will be treated.“I am lobbying with my office to ensure that these doctors are taken care of for the two days, “Morris stated. At the same time, he underscored the need for citizens of his district to work together in order to address the many challenges citizens have experienced over the years. “Despite what we have experienced over the years before becoming a lawmaker of this district, within the short period of time we have stayed in office, we are cognizant of the fact that there is more to be done”During the consultative meeting in the township of Louisiana, student D. Morris Flomo from the Elizabeth Tubman Memorial Institute pleaded with the district representative to offer young people scholarships, adding, “if the capacity of the youth of the township is built, they will become a role model for national transformation”.Following the request, honorable Morris pledged 70 scholarships to students based on defined criteria. District #1, which is one of the biggest districts in Montserrado County, has about four townships – Louisiana, Crozierville, Harrisburg and White Plains. Students from surrounding villages  also stand to benefit from the scholarships.Representative Morris, however, noted that there are criteria setup for obtaining the scholarships, saying, “We want transparency in the vetting process, and we are going to work with the various township commissioners to ensure that there is no “pick and choose” and that the process starts next academic school year.”The scholarships which are expected to be awarded for the next academic school year will be offered at the Barshall University, he disclosed.Chris Harris is a resident of White PlainsIn a related development, Chris Harris, a resident of White Plains, told the Daily Observer newspaper that there are lots of challenges that confront citizens of the township, and he named the lack of good health delivery services, lack of electricity and good water systems, bad road networks among others. He further explained that over the years citizens of the Township of White Planes have not been able to benefit from the Mount Coffee Hydro. “We are the direct (source) of the hydro that provides current to other inhabitants in Monrovia but we do not have current.”He further described the situation as a disservice to the citizens of the township, noting that there are times when pregnant women in the township die due to the distances they are from maternity services when they are in labor.Harris, however, lauded Representative Morris for touring various townships to know the conditions of the people. “This is the only lawmaker who has ever visited our township; we believe that he can bring the change that we want.”Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
