GEORGE, Utah-Tuesday, Dixie State baseball senior first baseman/outfielder/designated hitter Jake Engel was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s baseball player of the week.Engel, a 6-2 195-pound product of Ironwood High School of Tucson, Ariz., batted .500 (7-14) and posted two home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and four hits by pitch in four wins over Adams State this past weekend.In Saturday’s nightcap against the Grizzlies, Engel became the first Dixie State student-athlete in the school’s NCAA era to hit in 20 straight games.Sunday, he extended this to a 21-game winning streak by adding an RBI single.Engel has hit safely in all 16 of his starts for Dixie State this season for the 15-3 (4-0 in RMAC) Trailblazers.Engel is batting a team-best .458 (27-59) on the season and has 12 multi-hit outings in 2020 for Dixie State.Engel also leads the Trailblazers in home runs (6) and RBI (26). He is tied for the team lead in doubles (6) with redshirt junior catcher Tanner Harper and sophomore third baseman Tyson Fisher.Dixie State returns to action Friday-Sunday for a four-game series at UC Colorado Springs.
