first_img Graduating bachelor of education students at Mount Saint VincentUniversity in Halifax begin their job hunt today, Jan. 30. The people who hire teachers for Nova Scotia’s school boards willbe at the university for the final event in Nova Scotia’s EarlyHiring Job Fairs for 2004. “By holding these job fairs, we’ve given our school boards thechance to recruit new teachers before boards from outside theprovince,” said Education Minister Jamie Muir. The Department of Education, along with Nova Scotia school boardsand other partners, organized the job fairs so boards can try tofill positions in teaching areas such as mathematics, chemistry,physics, technology education and French. Each job fair allowed students to meet with representatives fromthe school boards, the Nova Scotia Registrar of TeacherCertification, the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, the Nova ScotiaSchool Boards Association and the Nova Scotia Teachers CreditUnion. Nova Scotia school boards will also be attending the EducationJob Fair organized by the University of Prince Edward Island onThursday, Feb. 12. Boards will hire only a portion of their entire complement ofteachers through the job fairs. Current term and substitute teachers, teachers who graduatedbefore 2004, or those who graduated from education programs at auniversity outside Nova Scotia can find out more about employmentopenings by contacting individual school boards. Teachers wishing to apply directly to school boards will find alist of boards and their contact information on the Department ofEducation website at www.ednet.ns.ca . Those teachers may also attend the University of Prince EdwardIsland event in February at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel. This is the second year that the Department of Education, NovaScotia school boards and other partners have hosted job fairevents.
